S.I. No. 206/1957 – Oil Pollution of the Sea (Records) Regulations, 1957

These Regulations apply to certain classes of Irish registered ships and require records to be kept of the matters relating to oil specified in Section 17 (1) of the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 .

S.I. No. 205/1957 – Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (Exceptions and Exemptions) Regulations, 1957

The Regulations permit :—

(a) the discharge by Irish vessels into the prohibited zones of an oily mixture containing lubricating oil only ;

(b) the discharge by Irish dry cargo vessels into the prohibited zones of oily mixtures where no reception facilities are provided at the port of arrival ;

(c) the discharge into Irish territorial waters by vessels of any nationality of less than 80 tons gross of an oily mixture containing lubricating oil only.

S.I. No. 204/1957 – Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (Application of Section 10) Regulations, 1957

These Regulations define heavy diesel oil, being one of the oils the discharge of which within a prohibited zone is an offence under Section 10 of the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 .

S.I. No. 203/1957 – Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (Commencement) Order, 1957

This Order brings into operation those provisions of the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 , which generally speaking,

(a) prohibit the discharge from Irish ships of certain oils within the sea areas specified in Parts I and II of the Schedule to the Act ;

(b) prohibit the discharge from vessels of whatever nationality of certain oil within the territorial waters of the State.

The areas specified in Parts I and II of the Schedule to the Act include the seas up to 100 miles from the coasts of Ireland, Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Federal Republic of Germany or Denmark and 50 miles from Norway, with the addition in the case of tankers of an area extending some 700 miles into the Atlantic Ocean.

The tidal waters of the River Foyle, in the No. 142 or Moville District, that is to say, the waters of that part of the River Foyle wholly situate in the County of Donegal and known as the " Branch Stream," between a line drawn across the river at right angles to its course from the northernmost point of Corkan Isle and a line drawn across the river at right angles to its course from the southernmost point of Island More.
