IRISH ENVIRONMENTAL LEGISLATION

These Regulations are concerned with the business of purchase and resale of wild fauna protected under the Wildlife Act, 1976 . The Regulations prescribe, inter alia, the form and period of validity of a wildlife dealer’s licence, the species of fauna which may be purchased and resold by licensed wildlife dealers, the rocords to be kept by such dealers and such other matters ancillary to the foregoing.

These regulations specify the type and calibre of firearms and ammunition which may be used to shoot deer species and provide that no other type and calibre may be used for that purpose

The purpose of these Regulations is to prescribe the form of certificate which a Peace Commissioner shall give to a member of the Garda S¡ochána or an authorised person under the Wildlife Act, 1976 , who applies to him for a direction to dispose of things seized under the Act before they can be used as evidence in proceedings for an offence under the Act. In any such proceedings the certificate shall, in accordance with Section 78 (7) of the Act, be accepted as sufficient evidence of the facts stated in it until the contrary is shown by the defendant.

This Order appoints the Water Pollution Advisory Council under section 2 of the Local Government (Water Pollution) Act, 1977 .

This Order brings into operation on 1st May, 1977, certain provisions of the Local Government (Water Pollution) Act, 1977 .

This Order prescribes the special local licence duties payable in respect of fishing engines used in special tidal waters.

In section 1 ‘waters’ are defined so as to include:(a) any (or any part of any) river, stream, lake, canal, reservoir, aquifer, pond, watercourse or other inland waters, whether natural or artificial,(b) any tidal waters, and(c) where the context permits, any breach, river bank, and salt marsh or other area which is contiguous to anything mentioned in paragraph (a) which is for the time being dry, but does not include a sewer.
