IRISH ENVIRONMENTAL LEGISLATION

The purpose of these Regulations is to prescribe the form of the notice of the intention of the Minister to make a purchase order in pursuance of Section 55 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 , in respect of registered land.

This Order fixes 1st October, 1978 and 1st January, 1979 as the dates for the purposes of sections 4 (1) and 16 respectively of the Local Government (Water Pollution) Act, 1977 which relate to the licensing of certain discharges to waters and to sewers.

This Order brings into effect on the 31st January, 1978, the Oil Pollution of the Sea (Amendment) Act, 1977 .

This Order establishes the Wildlife Advisory Council pursuant to Section 13 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 and provides for such matters as the constitution of the Council, the tenure of office of its members and other ancillary matters.

These Regulations give effect to Council Directive of the European Communities of 24th November, 1975 (75/716/EEC)1 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the sulphur content of certain liquid fuels and apply to gas oil only.

The Regulations prohibit the marketing in the State of gas oil, the sulphur content of which, expressed as sulphur, exceeds 0·8% by weight. They do not apply to gas oil used in power stations or by shipping or contained in the fuel tanks of motor vehicles entering the State.

These Regulations declare the bodies specified in the Schedule to be recognised bodies for the purpose of prosecution of offences under Section 44 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 in relation to unlawful hunting, or entry on land for the purpose of hunting, of wild animals or wild birds on lands over which the said bodies are entitled to enjoy sporting rights.

These Regulations replace the Protection of Animals (Approved Spring Traps) Order, 1968 ( S.I. No. 116 of 1968 ) and declare what are approved traps, snares and nets for the taking or killing (as appropriate) of any wild bird or wild mammal whether or not the taking or killing is done pursuant to a licence granted under the Wildlife Act, 1976 .

The effect of Regulation 3 of the Regulations is to make it an offence to import without licence or sell any trap, snare or net which is not a trap, snare or net described in Regulation 2 (a), (b) and (c).

This order brings into operation on 1st April, 1978, certain provisions of the Local Government (Water Pollution) Act, 1977 .
