S.I. No. 223/1981 – Oil Pollution of the Sea (Intervention Convention Countries) Order, 1981

This Order declares that the International Convention relating to Intervention on the High Seas in Cases of Oil Pollution Casualties, 1969 has been accepted by the countries specified in Part 1 of the Schedule to the Order and that the Convention extends to the territory specified in Part II of the Schedule.

This Order declares that the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution of the Sea by Oil, 1954 has been accepted by the countries specified in Part I of the Schedule to the Order, that the countries specified in Part II of the Schedule have accepted the amendments to that Convention which were adopted in April, 1962, that the countries specified in Part III of the Schedule have accepted the amendments to that Convention which were adopted in October, 1969 and that the Convention extends to the territories specified in Part IV of the Schedule.

This Order brings section 69 of the Fisheries Act, 1980 into force on the 1st of January, 1981. Section 69 provides for an increase from £1 to £25 in the fees payable for a Salmon Dealer’s Licence and for a Salmon Exporter’s Licence.

S.I. No. 354/1980 – Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (Exceptions) Regulations, 1980

These Regulations provide that ships other than tankers, and tankers in relation only to their machinery space bilges and discharges of oil therefrom, shall be excepted from the operation of Section 10 (3) of the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 , as amended, provided certain conditions are fulfilled.

They replace the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (Exceptions and Exemptions) Regulations, 1957. the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (Exception from Section 10 (3)) Regulations, 1958, and the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (Exceptions and Exemptions) (Amendment) Regulations, 1967.

The effect of these Regulations is to provide that diesel oil as defined shall be subject to the prohibition on the discharge of oil at sea imposed by the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 .
