IRISH ENVIRONMENTAL LEGISLATION

The Order establishes part of the lands situate in the townland of Grantstown, Co. Laois as a nature reserve so that it can be managed in such a way as to ensure the conservation of the woodland ecosystem which it constitutes.

The order establishes part of the lands situate in the townland of Ballinacooley, Co. Wicklow as a nature reserve so that it can be managed in such a way as to ensure the conservation of the woodland ecosystem which it constitutes.

This Order (a) prohibits vessels from any member State of the EEC from fishing for scheduled species of fish within the exclusive fishery limits of the State except in accordance with the quota proposals of the EEC Commission for such species for 1982. In the event of the proposed quotas for any stocks being reached before 31st December 1983, further Orders will be made providing for cessation of fishing on such stocks by vessels whose national quotas have been reached, (b) prohibits Danish vessels from fishing in the area landward of a line 12 miles from baselines and (c) prohibits Irish vessels from fishing in the area landward of a line 12 miles from baselines of other member States of the EEC except in accordance with a licence issued by the Minister.

This Order provides one seat for eel fishermen on the Southern Regional Fisheries Board and increases the overall number of seats on the Board to nineteen.

The main purpose of these regulations is to specify the day (the third Tuesday in December) in each election year (1981 and every fifth successive year thereafter) on which the elections of members of regional fisheries boards shall be held make provision for the nomination of different classes of candidates for election as members of regional fisheries boards and for the election of such candidates by different classes of electors, and? (c) provide for postal nominations and for postal voting at elections of members of regional fisheries boards.

These Regulations implement EEC Council Directive No. 79/116/EEC, as amended by Council Directive No. 79/1034/EEC, which prescribes minimum reporting requirements for certain oil, gas and chemical tankers entering or leaving Community ports.

This Order brings the Dumping at Sea Act, 1981 except section 2, into operation on 10th August, 1981, and brings section 2 of that Act into operation on 21st September, 1981.
