IRISH ENVIRONMENTAL LEGISLATION

These Regulations prescribe in relation to the establishment of aerodromes by local authorities the period during which Environmental Impact Statements required in accordance with the European Communities (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations, 1989, ( S.I. No. 349 of 1989 ) must be available for inspection and purchase. The Regulations also prescribe the bodies to which copies of the Environment Impact Statements are required to be provided.

The effect of these Regulations is to add three species of invertebrates namely the Kerry Slug, Freshwater Crayfish and Freshwater Pearl Mussel and all species of marine turtles to the list of protected species mentioned in the Fifth Schedule to the Wildlife Act, 1976 .

These Regulations provide, insofar as applications under section 54 of the Fisheries Act, 1980 to engage in the culture of salmonid fish are concerned, for the prescribing of the period for public consideration of and the making of submissions on Environmental Impact Statements provided for under the European Communities (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations, 1989 and lists the prescribed bodies to whom the Environmental Impact Statements will be provided for comment.

These Regulations provide, insofar as applications under section 15 of the Fisheries (Consolidation) Act, 1959 to engage in the culture of salmonid fish in an area of the sea are concerned, for the prescribing of the period for public consideration of and the making of submissions on Environmental Impact Statements provided for under the European Communities (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations, 1989 and lists the prescribed bodies to whom the Environmental Impact Statements will be provided for comment

These Regulations give effect to Council Directive 87/217/EEC of 19th March, 1987 on the prevention and reduction of environmental pollution by asbestos in so far as it relates to the disposal of waste asbestos. They include provisions with respect to the transport and deposit of such waste and provide for penalties for contravention or failure to comply with specified requirements.

This Order brings into operation on 1st March, 1990, Section 51 of the Air Pollution Act, 1987 which relates to the specification of emission limit values.

These Regulations specify an emission limit value for asbestos in the case of industrial plant concerned with the production and processing of asbestos and the manufacture of asbestos-based products.

The Regulations come into force on 1 March, 1990

This order confirms with modification the Special Control Area (Ballyfermot Area D) Order 1989 made by Dublin Corporation designating part of Ballyfermot a special control area within the meaning of the Air Pollution Act, 1987 .
