S.I. No. 402/1992 – Oil Pollution of the Sea (Annual Returns and Contributions in Respect of Compensation Fund) Regulations, 1992

These Regulations provide that persons who receive more than 150,000 tonnes of crude or fuel oil each year must make an annual return to that effect to the Minister for the Marine and pay pro-rata annual contributions to the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund. The Fund’s purpose is to provide compensation to victims of oil pollution damage.

These Regulations give effect to Council Directive No. 87/101/EEC of 22nd December 1986 (O.J. No. L42/43 of 12th February, 1987) amending Council Directive No. 75/439/EEC of 16th June 1975 (O.J. No. L194/23 of 25th July, 1975) on the disposal of waste oils. They revoke the European Communities (Waste Oils) Regulations, 1984 ( S.I. No. 107 of 1984 ).

The Regulations make local authorities responsible for the planning, organisation and supervision of collection and disposal operations, in particular through the implementation of a permit system

S.I. No. 363/1992 – European Communities (Mechanically Propelled Vehicle Emission Control) Regulations, 1992

These Regulations prohibit the issue of first licences for certain new vehicles for 1 January, 1993 unless the vehicles conform to the air pollutant emission control requirements of Directive 9¼41/EEC. Exceptions are made, in accordance with Directive 92/53/EEC, for end of series vehicles for a limited period subject to specified conditions.
