IRISH ENVIRONMENTAL LEGISLATION

These Regulations provide for the commencement and operation of the system of licensing by the Environmental Protection Agency of waste disposal activities under the Waste Management Act, 1996 . The Regulations set out procedures for the making of licence applications, reviews of licences and consideration by the Agency of objections, including the holding of oral hearings.

The Regulations also prescribe the day on or after which specified classes of waste disposal activity require a waste licence in accordance with section 39(1) of the Act.

These Regulations transpose Directive 92/72/EEC on air pollution by ozone into Irish law. The Regulations lay down provisions in relation to tropospheric ozone and assign functions to the Environmental Protection Agency in relation to the measurement of tropospheric ozone concentrations and the provision of information to the public (with the assistance of Met Éireann) in the event of the population information or population warning thresholds being exceeded.

These Regulations give effect to Council Directive 92/43/EEC on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora (Habitats Directive).

The Regulations empower the Minister to designate special areas of conservation (endangered species and habitats of endangered species) as a contribution to an EU Community network to be known as NATURA 2000.

The Regulations also place an obligation on the Minister, other Ministers of the Government, Local Authorities and other State Bodies to have regard to the provisions of the Regulations in carrying out their powers and functions under certain Enactments under their control.

This Order introduces controls on specified risk material, as defined in Article 2 of the Order, for the purposes of the control of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy.

An act to provide for the prevention and control of litter pollution, the prevention of the defacement of certain places and matters relating thereto.

These Regulations alter the transitional technical arrangements for establishing compliance with Directive 94/12/EC, concerning emissions from mechanically propelled vehicles.

These Regulations amend the Genetically Modified Organisms Regulations, 1994 ( S.I. No. 343 of 1994 ), by introducing revised criteria and guidelines for the classification of genetically modified micro-organisms for contained use purposes.

These Regulations prohibit the issue of first licences for certain new vehicles from 1 November, 1996 unless the vehicles conform to the air pollutant emission control requirements of Directive 96/1/EC.
